What is Rapid type?

Rapid type is a design/build studio based on a grant from Mitsubishi to explore potential design uses and assembly techniques that are specific to using Alpolic. Research in marketing and deployment strategies of prefabricated architecture guided our approach to develop a semi-mobile food service unit as a means to test the limits of Alpolic.

Team Bent – Prototyping

The class was challenged with the task of creating full scale prototypes of possible connection details.  This would give us an understanding of assembly, process, and aesthetic understanding.  Our team focused on bent strategy that could integrate with lighting and shear wall construction. (TP)

Fold:it Design Prototype a1

Through this 2 week investigation into the properties and possibilities of Alpolic, I found that folding and cellular structure could offer the most flexibility in form making. While the structural integration of a secondary system is neccesary the three dimentional diamond form could offer structural integrity to to cell and small agrigated systems.
